Brian Kiel, Tony Shumskas, Jacob Surber, Ben Mendelsohn, John Egan, and Alex Bustin put together a highly entertaining automatic game over the weekend, and took our top prize at FlashCamp:

“Avenue Fighter 2008: Battle for the White House is a political fighting game that is controlled by the current tweets (messages) appearing on Twtter.com.

Once running, the game scans Twitter for new tweets containing either McCain or Obama, and weighs the phrase as positive or negative.

The weighted phrases are then used to determine each candidate’s attacks. Every fight is different. Play it all day and root for your candidate!”

If Andrew Nguyen hadn’t won Best Video, he would have won the Helps Developers prize. Not only did he produce this app entirely on his own, over the weekend, but he answered almost every summons for engineering help from the audience. Thanks, Andrew!

Ming-en, Justin, Rod, Greg, and Jose produced a webcam-based audio instrument that plays tones based on your movements!

Matthieu Avignon, Demian Borba, and Erwin Haya produced probably the most polished app during the FlashCamp contest, and it’s live right now!

Flash newbies Indy Hurt (grad student at the Geography department at UC Santa Barbara) and Kailen Wright produced an electoral map mashup using CS4 and Arcmap.  They’ve also worked this into an AIR app!

Jennifer Sanders and Jeanne Nicholas taught themselves Flash CS4 in a weekend and produced the start of a wonderful visualization for learning Sign Language using Inverse Kinetics and an image of actual hand bones.

Keith Harty and Edgar Miranda made “a game that is meant to embarrass the player as they play it.”
