Brian Kiel, Tony Shumskas, Jacob Surber, Ben Mendelsohn, John Egan, and Alex Bustin put together a highly entertaining automatic game over the weekend, and took our top prize at FlashCamp:
“Avenue Fighter 2008: Battle for the White House is a political fighting game that is controlled by the current tweets (messages) appearing on Twtter.com.
Once running, the game scans Twitter for new tweets containing either McCain or Obama, and weighs the phrase as positive or negative.
The weighted phrases are then used to determine each candidate’s attacks. Every fight is different. Play it all day and root for your candidate!”
Attendee and friend of Adobe Daniel Brusilovsky has set up a ustream.tv channel for FlashCamp! We’ll be live with audio and video for this afternoon’s Contest.
This is in addition to our backchannel chat taking place all day.
Because that’s just how cool he is, Tony D has provided the source code to his inverse kinematics demos from this afternoon! Now all you need is a rad haircut, brilliant tats, and a sweet new Harley and you can be just like Tony. Well, almost:
OK, Go!
Tonight we talked about how to get a license to unlock your advance copy of Flash CS4 or Flex Builder:
- Show up on Saturday morning or Sunday morning and check in with our Registration desk, and/or
- Submit and demonstrate your design or your app during the Hackathon Contest.
Just so we’re clear: the whole goal here is to reward participation.
Part of producing this event prior to our actual official ship date is that production serial numbers haven’t been generated yet. Our plan is to email them out to qualified participants once we have them, so you’ll want to make sure that we have the right email address on file. You can check that when you hit registration either day.
This type of prerelease event has never been attempted before, and we’re all learning as we go. Thanks for your patience and understanding.
Good news, everyone! There are still a few spaces left (and free copies of Flash CS4) at FlashCamp this coming weekend. If you’re already attending, feel free to bring a friend or two — just make sure they’re registered ahead of time.
It’s going to be a blast, with Adobe catering, free coffee/espresso bar, tasty snacks and healthy ones, beer but also smart drinks, lunch and dinner. Additionally (on Friday and Saturday) we will employ a masseuse to help you stay loose and focused on coding and building rich experiences with Flash Player 10. So get there early and sign up for your free massage!
Along with the traditional BarCamp-style open microphone all weekend, there will also be a signup sheet for those interested in speaking on any topic in our presentation hall, Saturday afternoon or early Sunday. These speaking opportunities include high-definition screen-capture-and-audio recording services, compliments of Adobe. Check our Agenda for more detail.
Your fully licensed copy of Flash CS4 (plus more) will be available for install on your own machine at the event on Friday, October 10, starting at 5pm. WiFi, Ethernet, and power strips will be provided. Seating should be plentiful, but the best spots are first-come-first-seated. Parking will be available either in the Adobe Garage on King Street, or nearby along 7th Street (details in the Travel section).
See you there!
The folks on the Flash CS4 team are doing something really special for FlashCamp: giving away (for free, as in beer, which will also be free) advance copies of Flash CS4 Professional to each and every participant!
This is a full working copy of the actual shipping bits with an individual license, on a DVD for you to take home and use after the event for as long as you want (valued at US$699).
The DVD will have some other cool features, but space and copies are limited! Get registered today and we’ll confirm everyone we can within the next few days.
